Artifact C3: Fall Orientation Model for Transfer Students
This entry contains one of my best-written works in the Student Development Administration program. This piece explores best practices in transfer orientation programs at a large private institution for SDAD 575: Best Practices in Student Services in Summer 2013. After exploring a myriad of institutions in upstate New York (Cornell University, SUNY Cortland, SUNY Binghamton, Ithaca College), I wrote a paper regarding the transfer model at Cornell University and the best practices they utilize effectively. This entry demonstrates my growth in analyzing best practices, adapting theory into practice, making recommendations from my analysis, and working with an underrepresented and often overlooked population.
This entry addresses learning outcomes number 1 (Understanding the foundations and emerging nature of the Student Affairs profession and higher education), number 2 (Understanding students and student issues), number 5 (Adapting student services to specific environments and cultures), number 7 (Utilizing assessment, evaluation, technology, and research to improve practice), and number 9 (Understanding issues surrounding law, policy, finance and governance). As a culminating project during Best Practices in Student Services, I was able to integrate numerous learning outcomes into my process, analysis, and recommendations. Mostly, this piece addresses understanding transfer needs and adapting orientation models to meet those needs.
