Artifact J: Distinctive Contribution
This entry contains a distinctive contribution a comprehensive sexual assault peer education team, focusing on men educating men to end sexual violence. This proposal for implementation was created in Fall 2013 and it is in continued development for implementation using a research-based curriculum. This entry demonstrates my ability to take on an independent project, write a compelling proposal, and adapt a student service to a different institutional type to fit their needs. As part of the proposal, I recommended targeting higher risk populations such as athletics where hyper-masculine environments could facilitate sexual assaults. Furthermore, the program would use athletes as peer educators to change the norms around athletic cultures and the meaning on being a teammate. The main topics in this workshop would be dispelling rape myths and social norms, defining what it means to be a teammate, clarifying Seattle University policies, and empowering participants to intervene as pro-social bystanders.
This entry addresses learning outcomes number 5 (Adapting student services to specific environments and cultures), number 7 (Utilizing assessment, evaluation, technology, and research to improve practice), and number 8 (Communicating effectively in speech and in writing).
