Artifact E: Beyond Campus: Jesuit Context and Commitment
This entry contains a reflection on my service-learning project at the Ballard Food Bank for MBA 510: Leadership Skills and Team Development in Fall of 2013. A requirement for the class is to complete a project with a critical mass of students in the class and we choose the food bank and an outdoor cleanup of invasive species. I chose the food bank to be a part of my portfolio because it represents Jesuit values. This entry demonstrates my growth working collaboratively in a team environment, serving marginalized communities, and immersing myself into the community.
This entry addresses leaning outcomes number 4 (Understanding and fostering diversity, justice and a sustainable world formed by a global perspective and Jesuit Catholic tradition), and number 6 (Developing and demonstrating skills in leadership and collaboration). I had to learn to work outside of the Student Development Administration bubble with law and business graduate students as a team to further Jesuit traditions in the community. Ballard Food Bank embodies care for the whole person through their innovative and empowering model. Finally, to organize a large-scale service-leaning project, collaboration and compromise were necessary to meet the requirements. I formed many personal and professional relationships throughout my experience in MBA 510 and the service-learning project at Ballard Food Bank. |
